Position Summary
Dar al Islam is a non-profit organization dedicated to cultivating greater understanding of Islam among Americans in order to establish our commonalities and build stronger relationships.  We are committed to an integrated, appreciative society.  We believe in collaborative efforts that encourage greater compassion and empathy between all communities. 
The Director of Education will be responsible for developing, organizing and operating educational programs offered by Dar al Islam. By assessing contemporary needs and organizational opportunities, the Director of Education will propose educational programs to satisfy specific objectives and spearhead the design, implementation and evaluation of those programs.  In addition, the Director of Education will assess the viability of existing educational programs.  Further responsibilities include budgeting and related financial management, scheduling events and vendor relations, and assuring that program documentation is captured and maintained in appropriate manners. 
The Director of Education will report to the Executive Director and will work collaboratively with other Dar al Islam staff, while being given the opportunity to illustrate leadership skills.  This position requires an enthusiastic, energetic person who will show sincere commitment to the mission of Dar al Islam. 
A well-qualified person may start as a part-time, contractual person with the opportunity for growth. This role includes 15% travel, including 20 days in July.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the continuity of existing educational programs. Develop and meet targets for increased quality and efficiency of these existing programs and for the extension of existing programs into related areas.
  • Conduct market research on target populations, identify their needs, and develop innovative and efficient programs to serve these needs in keeping with the mission and operational approach of Dar al Islam.
  • Cultivate relationships with other organizations leading to increased collaboration for educational programs.
  • Prepare reports on programs. Maintain database of program participants and program content providers. Prepare activity reports measuring successes against goals, and provide financial reports as requested.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Executive Director or the Chairman of the Dar al Islam Board of Trustees. 

  • Knowledge and, at least three years, experience in running successful educational programs, including the functions outlined above;
  • Experience leading a collaborative process to design and implement programs;
  • Demonstrated experience with marketing of previous programs that shows that the strategy had impact on programs themselves; 
  • Detail oriented, highly organized;
  • Excellent communication skills, including strong writing abilities and a demonstrated ease with diverse populations;
  • Ability to prepare, monitor, and review budgets;
  • Experience with strategic partnerships that shows strength in leveraging resources;
  • Ability to engage and harness volunteer and/or part-time staff resources;
  • An entrepreneurial spirit
  • A Bachelors or higher degree in a relevant field is required
