The Washington Tennis & Education Foundation (WTEF) is a premier nonprofit educational and tennis organization for underserved children in Washington, D.C. We engage students in productive activities that teach discipline, build confidence, improve school performance, and encourage a healthy lifestyle and lifelong fitness.
WTEF is hiring a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to oversee the successful administration of WTEF’s facilities, finances, human resource, and IT functions. As a key member of the senior leadership team, the COO will develop and maintain the internal platform of processes and policies necessary for WTEF to accomplish its strategic objectives.
The ideal candidate will bring a passion for youth development, a proven ability to develop creative solutions, and an understanding of best practices in nonprofit leadership and operations.
  • Direct the successful day-to-day operations and maintenance and repair of WTEF facilities
  • Experience managing major and minor construction/improvement projects
  • Create detailed operations manuals for WTEF’s facilities, including warranties, maintenance, and replacement schedules
  • Establish and monitor maintenance contracts
Human Resources
  • Support the performance, professional development, and evaluation of staff
  • Oversee the administration of employee benefits plans
  • Lead the recruitment and onboarding of new employees and contractors
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local non-profit and employment regulations
Financial Management
  • Ensure clear, concise, and accurate financial records and reporting to internal leadership and Board
  • Oversee the annual budgeting process, including coordination among the program directors
  • Supervise the accountant to ensure the timely, accurate processing of payroll and accounts payable
  • Work with the grants manager to provide budgets for grant proposals and reports
  • Oversee risk management and legal activities including contracts, leases and other agreements, and procure appropriate insurance policies
  • Monitor investments and ensure compliance with investment reserve policies
  • Ensure compliance with applicable financial regulations
Information Technology
  • Select and implement technology solutions that best support organizational objectives (e.g., development database)
  • Supervise staff, consultants and vendors delivering technology goods and services
  • Ensure the maintenance and evolution of the website and social media
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience in a senior nonprofit leadership role, including direct management of staff
  • Experience successfully managing a facility with extensive knowledge of building management systems
  • Expertise in financial management, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance
  • Superb written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in and passion for youth development or education, particularly for underserved communities
