The YWCA National Capital Area (YWCA NCA) is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. We are seeking an experienced and innovative nonprofit executive to serve as CEO and provide strategic leadership and daily management of all aspects of YWCA NCA’s people, programs, and systems.  The ideal candidate will bring a passion for the organization’s mission, a track record of accomplishments, a deep understanding of the work we do and the environment we operate in, and exceptional communication skills.  S/he also will bring particular strengths in fundraising, partnership development, and external relations. 

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide overall leadership of the organization’s strategy, staff, programs, administration, and finances to ensure the successful execution of YWCA NCA’s mission.
  • Lead and motivate staff to achieve their objectives by providing necessary resources, professional development opportunities, and performance management.
  • Ensure YWCA NCA’s programs are achieving clear, measurable results with greatest potential impact.
  • Diversify and expand the organization’s funding base across foundations, government, corporate, and individual giving.
  • Engage the Board of Directors in regular communication to maximize their time, expertise, and resources.
  • Develop and manage relationships with diverse stakeholders, including community members, nonprofits, businesses, and government officials.
  • Enhance our communications efforts to strengthen our brand, ensuring our message is effectively promoted across all media platforms.
  • Ensure YWCA NCA’s fiscal health through the responsible management, tracking, and reporting of finances.
  • Passionate about the YWCA NCA’s mission, demonstrated by previous experience, especially in organizations that provide adult education and training, youth mentoring and/or advocacy for women and girls.  
  • Previous experience in a senior-level nonprofit leadership role, including staff management and Board engagement.
  • Experience creating, building, and evaluating high-impact, mission-driven programs and operations.
  • Successful record of generating revenue through individual and major giving, strategic partnerships, grants and contributions from foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
  • Superb interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; ability to represent the organization to a variety of audiences.
  • Experience developing and executing strategic and detailed operating plans.
  • Proven ability to attract, develop, and retain a talented staff.
  • Experience building a collaborative relationship with a diverse Board of Directors.
  • Strong financial acumen with demonstrated experience in budget planning and forecasting.
