We’re partnering with high schools and colleges to strengthen their mental health, substance misuse, and suicide prevention programs and systems. We’re equipping teens and young adults with the skills and knowledge to help themselves and each other. We’re encouraging community awareness, understanding and action for young adult mental health.

About the Senior Vice President, People and Equity Position
Reporting to the President & COO, the Senior Vice President, People and Equity (SVP) will serve as a key member of the senior leadership team and will drive strategy and create change to ensure JED’s internal people and talent function is values-driven, results-oriented, diverse, equitable, inclusive, and antiracist. This is a new position focused on strategy and on ensuring JED has the internal leadership, talent practices, and culture in place to achieve its mission of protecting emotional health and preventing suicide for our nation’s teens and young adults. 

The new leader will serve as a thought partner to the President & COO, senior executives, department heads, and all staff to drive toward an impactful, sustainable, equitable, antiracist organization. JED is currently in the midst of significant growth and change, growing from 40 to 65 over the past two years and with plans to continue expanding its programs and staff to nearly 120 across the next five years. The new leader will have one direct report, will manage a small group of consultants, and will work across the organization to ensure impact.

The ideal candidate is a compassionate, collaborative, and patient leader who is an excellent listener and consensus builder. They/he/she are empathetic, relational, genuine, and accessible, and will bring vision, innovation, and practical experience in leadership and management to JED. They/he/she will bring a record of success in both high-level strategic thinking and operationalizing a vision across an organization, and the ability to root an organization, teams, and individuals in JED’s values and guiding principles during a chapter of growth, expansion, and change. 

Responsibilities

Co-create an inclusive culture that is rooted in equity

  • Center JED’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism in JED’s culture and oversee the revision and transformation of internal policies and procedures to reflect and promote greater equity
  • Promote and ensure a collaborative and inclusive culture through a collective process to define and normalize how JED’s values and guiding principles are animated internally
  • Promote collaboration, communication, and commitment to one another’s success across programs and functions
  • Guide policy and program development to create a healthy and inclusive work environment 
  • Provide strategic direction for training initiatives on cultural competency, gender differences, disability, sexual harassment, building a climate of equity and inclusion, and other topics designed to increase awareness and support of equity and inclusion values

Oversee JED’s people function
  • Oversee the strategy for JED’s people function, ensuring the organization has the human capital needed to meet its goals and that employees have what they need to be successful at JED
  • Serve as a thought leader, strategic advisor, and functional expert to leaders across JED regarding talent
  • Set a clear, compelling vision for attracting, developing, training, and retaining talent 
  • Oversee strategies focused on the recruitment of a diverse workforce, retention of employees who represent historically under-served or under-represented communities and populations, and equitable compensation across programs
  • Support and guide recruitment to help create a brand that appeals to diverse applicants 
  • Develop role-specific standards for success at all levels, from entry-level staff to senior leaders, that align with JED’s goals and ensure the scope of staff’s roles is reasonable, has focus, and clear metrics for success
  • Assist programs and staff in developing their professional and personal capacity by identifying and providing resources, training, and learning opportunities

Candidate Profile:
  • Deep commitment to centering and uplifting JED’s guiding principles in every aspect of the work
  • Strong leadership skills, including 10 to 15 years of leadership experience in organizational development, DEI&A, change management, human resources, or other related field 
  • Effective and persuasive communicator, both oral and written, with strong emotional intelligence 
  • Experience implementing diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism initiatives
  • A passionate advocate with a growth mindset who never stops learning, creates conditions for success for our team, and prioritizes developing talent 
  • Energetic, self-driven, curious, and relentlessly focused on building inclusive high- performing teams that are continually improving 
  • Culturally respectful and self-aware 
  • A track record of getting results using collaborative and strategic project management and organizational skills 
  • Kind, empathetic, humble, direct, mission-driven, flexible, influential with a very high degree of personal integrity including the ability to manage sensitive or confidential information 
  • A good listener who focuses on the root causes of issues, listens to understand, and makes connections between qualitative and quantitative information 


Compensation
The compensation target for this role is $200K and includes excellent benefits.
