Position Description

Title: Director of the St. Jane de Chantal Salesian Center

Term: 11 months

Position Summary: Georgetown Visitation is seeking an experienced leader with a passion for ministry and Catholic faith formation, demonstrated experience developing and implementing a clearly-defined strategy, and a proven ability to develop strong, collaborative relationships. The top candidate will work closely with school faculty and staff to support them to live and lead others in Salesian Spirituality. The Director will implement a formation plan and guide the school in its strategic initiatives to live fully in the spirituality of our school sponsors, the Sisters of Georgetown Visitation Monastery. The Director will oversee the programs led by the Assistant Director and ensure they are meeting the needs of each constituency. The top candidate will bring an appreciation for the teachings of St. Francis de Sales and St. Jane de Chantal, previous experience in a Roman Catholic school, and exceptional writing and public speaking skills. 

Supervisor: The Director reports to the President of Georgetown Visitation.

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Actively support the mission and Visitation charism of the school; demonstrate an understanding of and enthusiasm for secondary education, for girls’ education, and for Catholic education.
  • Building on the current vision of the St. Jane de Chantal Salesian Center, lead a planning process that results in a clearly articulated strategy and multi-year growth plan with practical and measurable objectives.
  • Working in close coordination with other leaders across the school and Monastery, create, plan, and execute programs and initiatives that meet the vision, as well as the strategic and operational objectives of the Center.
  • Lead the Spiritual Life Team, to include the Director of Christian Service and the Director of Campus Ministry as well as other spiritual life partners.
  • Use foundational educational and formational resources in Salesian Spirituality in the school and broader community, particularly focusing on forming all members of the school community in living the Visitation charism in the everyday circumstances of their lives.
  • Create a pipeline of Salesian leadership so that people throughout the school are seen as examples and mentors of living Salesian Spirituality. Support the current school leaders and School Board members in their growth as Salesian leaders.
  • Ensure the Center’s sound fiscal management by creating and managing a detailed budget; work with relevant Finance staff to monitor income and expenses.
  • Work in close collaboration with the Communications Department to share Salesian Spirituality via podcasts, mailings, and social media.
  • Serve on the national Visitation Salesian Network of Schools (VSN) and collaborate with peer Charism Directors at other VSN member schools.
  • Ensure the school's support and engagement with all VSN-sponsored programs, including the annual VISTORY service week and Salesian Leadership Camp (SLC), periodic student and adult pilgrimages to Annecy, France, and semi-annual meetings of VSN Reps.
  • Oversee the every-5-year VSN Salesian assessment process and facilitate the implementation of its recommendations and goals.
  • Serve on the Board Mission and Ministry Committee and the school’s President’s Collaborative.
  • Coordinate the efforts of researching, teaching, sharing, and memorializing the school and Monastery's history and legacy of enslavement and the current call to work for social justice.
  • Supervise the Assistant Director, School Archivist, and History of Enslaved People Program Director.
  • Collaborate with Campus Ministry to support students on their Salesian formation through prayer services, student reflections, and assemblies.
  • Lead coordination of activities for Founders Day, our annual, all-school community day of tradition, spirituality, sisterhood, and prayer.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Ideal Experience

  • A practicing Roman Catholic with a demonstrated commitment to growing in his/her faith
  • A personal commitment to exhibiting the tenets of Salesian leadership
  • Experience in a Roman Catholic school
  • Significant knowledge of the spiritual traditions and teachings of St. Francis de Sales and St. Jane de Chantal
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with experience leading a major initiative or program
  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills, with a proven ability to see a project thru from inception to completion
  • A demonstrated passion for leading, guiding and collaborating with a diverse set of stakeholders
  • Exceptional public speaking and writing skills, with a demonstrated ability to adapt messages to different audiences and formats
  • Experience managing direct reports

 

Competencies: 

  • Experience in project management and event planning. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a clear, concise writing style 
  • Facilitation of spiritual reflection among adults 
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders 
  • Ability to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics and confidentiality 
  • Occasional nights and weekends, with some travel required
  • Ability to move around campus and into several non-ADA compliant buildings

Compensation

The targeted salary range is $95,000 - $110,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits also include contributory group health, dental, and vision insurance, non-contributory life/AD&D, short-term and long-term disability insurance, contributory retirement plan with matching contributions after one year of service, tuition remission benefits per handbook policy, and generous paid time off.
