Director, Grants and Foundation Relations

CityBridge is Washington D.C.’s incubator for new schools and innovative learning models. The Director, Grants and Foundation Relations (Director) reports to the CEO and works collaboratively across the organization to raise significant philanthropic capitol.  He or she serves as the Editor-in-Chief for all grants, working with the CityBridge Education development and program teams and with the funding community to effectively manage the grants process.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of organizational vision, goals, and program
  • Understand funders’ specific interests and needs, and work with program staff to identify the most relevant elements, milestones, and deliverables, and craft them into compelling written narratives
  • Distill a significant amount of program detail into digestible language for targeted donor audiences
  • Write high-quality grant proposals for new funders and grant renewals
  • Develop and oversee the project management of the grant development and reporting process
  • Maintain open communication channels and strong working relationships with staff
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with program officers at current and new foundation donors

  • Superior writing skills
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, and self-directed
  • Excellent project management skills with a track record of managing many projects at one time
  • Analytical decision maker with the ability to prioritize and communicate to staff key objectives and tactics necessary to achieve goals
  • Exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; strong presentation skills and the ability to interface with senior management, the board of directors, and staff
