The Director, Athletics Annual Giving has primary responsibilities include managing, marketing, and mass solicitation strategies for the annual fund contributions allocated to the Georgetown University Athletic Department. Specific aspects include the planning and implementation of a $4.5+ million annual fundraising drive and implementing innovative giving strategies and challenges to grow the base of support from alumni-student athletes, alumni, parents and former parents as well as fans and friends. Responsibilities include but are not limited to direct mail marketing, e-philanthropy and digital media and leadership annual giving strategies. Furthermore, this position collaborates with the Director of Athletics Engagement to grow the Georgetown Letterwinners Society and the alumni student-athlete giving participation rate through various communications channels and events. Following NCAA Rules and Regulations is an obligation.  This position also manages two full-time staff.
 
Work Interactions
  • The Director interacts with donors, volunteers and other athletic alumni, parents and friends.  This interaction occurs through the following: volunteer fundraising events, stewardship interactions, customer service, by attending Georgetown Athletics varsity sporting events and attending University-led events and leadership opportunities.  As necessary, the position works in partnership with the Director for Athletics Engagement to engage key athletics volunteers (e.g. Hoyas Unlimited Board of Directors and volunteer support clubs). 
  • The position interacts with staff members of the Athletic Department (including but not limited to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and senior administrators, coaches and support staff). The position interacts with the University’s greater alumni population.  The position interacts with various members of the Office of Advancement staff including the Annual Giving team. 
  • This position directly reports to the Assistant Vice President for Annual Giving.  The position has interaction and communication with the Athletics Director, the Senior Director of Development for Athletics, the Director, Athletics Engagement and the Senior Director of Annual Giving for Marketing and Participation.  The position also interacts with the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Assistant and Associate Athletic Directors, Director of Ticket Sales and Operations, and Coaches, but does not report directly to Athletics.
Responsibilities
 
Fundraising
  • The Director is responsible for all fundraising goals and sport-specific, current-use fundraising for Georgetown Athletics at least $4.5M from over 6,000 donors each fiscal year as well as assisting with the execution of specific special fundraising initiatives for Athletics.
  • Manage the overall efforts of The Annual Fund for Georgetown Athletics, including but not limited to strategizing, planning and implementing mass communication, execute giving challenges to drive increases in dollars and participation, such as a challenge for alumni student-athletes, stewardship activities,  produce best-in-class work as it relates to production of direct mail, phone and strategic digital communication.
  • In partnership with central Annual Giving, develop, implement and track on a strategy to increase leadership annual giving donor numbers and amount giving to the Athletics department.
 
Resource Management
  • Manage the time and the priorities of two full-time staff; their responsibilities include but are not limited to: 1) data analytics; 2) brand management and strategic digital and print communication; 3) fundraising campaign planning and execution.
  • Manage the budget responsibilities for the department
Volunteer Interaction and Collaboration
  • Partner with the Director, Athletics Engagement for volunteer intersection opportunities for projects like Letterwinners Challenge, etc to achieve a broad outreach to new and renewed donors.
Communications
  • This person should be in regular contact with coaches, club presidents, lead volunteers and athletic administrators in addition to athletics development and annual giving staff to coordinate a unified and agreed to approach for raising funds for Athletics
  • Attend Athletics, University and Advancement events as necessary
Management and data integrity of the database
  • The development of policies and procedures (in partnership with other Athletics Administrators and working groups), b) contact information gathering, and c) data clean up oversight.  This position is also expected to monitor and analyze fundraising progress through data analytics and be able to speak and share them with colleagues.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5 - 10 years of fundraising experience, with experience in athletics fundraising or annual giving/marketing preferred
  • This position has infrequent weekend and evening events they are required to be working or in attendance.
