The Campaign Legal Center (CLC) is a nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C. Through litigation, policy analysis, and public education, CLC works to protect and strengthen the U.S. democratic process across all levels of government. CLC is adamantly nonpartisan, holding candidates and government officials accountable regardless of political affiliation. We will continue in the fight for democracy reform until the United States’ political process is accessible to all citizens, resulting in a representative, responsive, and accountable government.

Position Summary
CLC is seeking a highly collaborative leader to ensure the organization continues to improve its operational and administrative infrastructure as it grows. The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) will work collaboratively with CLC’s talented team of programmatic, policy, and legal experts to provide the resources and support needed to achieve their goals. In addition, the CAO will oversee the Human Resources Director and Operations Assistant. S/he also will serve as a thought partner to the senior team on the organization’s strategy and Board engagement.
 
The ideal candidate will bring a demonstrated record of managing and enhancing the administration of a high-performing organization or large department. The top candidate is a creative problem-solver who thrives on identifying solutions and focusing on what’s possible while facilitating strong collaboration and communication across the organization. S/he will bring strong emotional intelligence and a proven ability to help individuals and teams achieve their full potential.

Key Areas of Responsibility
  • Staff meetings and communication: Plan and facilitate regular staff meetings and other communications to ensure effective information sharing and decision-making
  • Operational efficiency: Evaluate and revise internal systems, policies, and procedures to promote best practices and improve operational performance
  • Human Resources strategy: Work with the senior team to ensure that all decisions related to staff hiring, management, performance, compensation, professional development, and retention are thoughtfully considered
  • Organization development and culture: Engage with the President and senior team to manage current and future organizational structure and cultural change
  • Facilities: Ensure CLC’s facilities support an effective working environment; facilitate CLC’s upcoming office move, including space selection, construction build-out, and move
  • IT Strategy: Manage IT consultant, overseeing key IT decisions
  • Events management: Oversee the planning and execution of all events
 
Qualifications
  • Previous experience managing the operations and administration of an organization or large department
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement policies, processes, and systems to optimize an organization’s operational efficiency
  • Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with a proven ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Creative, adaptive, problem-solving ability
  • Collaborative working style with an ability to build consensus
